History: Jewish parents took seriously the responsibility of teaching their sons a trade. The tent making mentioned in acts was done by both Priscilla and Aquila. They had to leave Rome and came to Corinth because Claudius ordered all Christian Jews to leave Rome.
Priscilla, Aquila and Paul, not only worked together, but after Corinth, they moved on to Ephesus together. Do you think they had something in common? Yes, they not only had the same trade, but the same belief, and the same heritage.
They offered their home, companionship, and trade to help Paul. Not just to Paul, but to all believers in Corinth. They had a church in their house. (1 Cor. 16:19)
As you read about Priscilla, she moved along with her husband and Paul from Rome, to Corinth, to Ephesus and back to Rome. You never read about any complaining from her. She was content and ministered wherever she had to go. She served wherever she lived. Can you say the same about your service in your church or ministry?
Paul closes the book of Romans with these words about them:
“Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, who for my life risked their own necks, to whom not only do I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles; also greet the church that is in their house.” Romans 16:3-5
In this day and time that we live in, will you be willing to open your house to the dangers of the gospel? You may say, Mary, we have churches to go to. We no longer live in those times. Well, I’ll tell you the Wisdom of Solomon. “That which has been is that which will be, and that which has been done is that which will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun.” Eccl. 1:9
“But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come.” 2 Timothy 3:1
Will you be ready to “preach the word”, like Priscilla; will you “be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”
When you look at the ministry of Priscilla and her husband, Aquila, they as a couple, took in Paul, corrected Apollos, and continued to work their job, and stand up for the gospel. Are you the next Priscilla?
