The last, but not only, sign is you are drawn back toward old bondages.
In a long spiritual battle, a person is often pulled back towards negative cycles that they broke free from. The enemy wants to enslave them once again in the same old bondages. If he can discourage them bad enough to give into sin that they were free from, then he can loosen shame and condemnation upon them causing them to spiral down into deeper defeat.
Remember the words of Paul:
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and cis seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”Hebrews 12:1-2
I want to touch on a few words:
Weight - encumbrance, burden, impediment, tumor; worries, what we think
Sin – missing the mark
Entangles- surround; yoke of bondage; block; entrap; ambush
Let’s go back in look at what happens if we allow satan to take us back to our old bandages using the breakdown of these words:
Let us lay aside every weight, encumbrance, tumor, worry, and all that we think, which entangles us, surrounds us, causes a yoke of bondage, blocks us, entraps us and finally ambushes us.
Do you see what satan can do if we CHOOSE to go back to a bondage Christ delivered us from?! Now, this is just dealing with the word “weight”, but if we do it and go back into sin, we are missing the mark. We are missing what God has for us!
